National Programs

In FY 2019, Alan L. Freed Associates is offering a menu of one-day national programs that can be presented at military installations around the United States. The format for each national program is identical to the programs held on Capitol Hill. Please note that each program can be modified to address specific areas of concern to individual agencies/organizations.

Program Description

There is no doubt that there are significant tensions between the Republican Congress and the White House. The Republican Party is deeply divided and the Democratic Party is remarkably united in opposition—and therein lies the problem facing policymakers in Washington. Deeply partisan divisions over tax and spending, immigration, energy, health, trade, defense and foreign policy demand serious attention, while rapidly changing global events, from Syria to North Korea, compound the difficulties facing the 115th Congress.

Attendees at this one-day Capitol Hill Workshop will have the opportunity to discuss these and other critical issues in an off-the-record setting featuring a group of nationally recognized speakers who are experienced in all aspects of the national policymaking process.

Seminar Topics

    • Power and Partisanship: Reflections on How Washington Actually Works
    • The Congressional Process: Strategic Lawmaking on Capitol Hill
    • The Evolution of Leadership and Power on Capitol Hill
    • Lawmaking and the Role of Congressional Staff
    • National Security and the Defense Budget
    • Why Politicians Seldom See the World As It Really Is
    • The Politics of Border Security
    • Emerging Threats Facing Congress: A Global Assessment

*The above topics may change to address current events at the time of the seminar.

Exceptionally relevant topics and highly-credentialed speakers; very thought-provoking, in a great way; all speakers were appropriate as were the topics. As well-run and organized a class/course as I’ve ever been to.

B.K., Air Force • National and International Secuirty Leadership Seminar February 2017

Really Outstanding, will highly recommend to others. Highly professional, thoughtful and experienced classmates greatly added to my positive experience in this class.

W. Smith, Pentagon

Without a doubt the best seminar/training program I have ever experienced during 40 years in federal service. I would take this course once a quarter if possible and have all my people do so also.

USCG Attendee, White House Workshop • September, 2014

The experience and breadth of knowledge of all the speakers was spectacular. Their chosen topics for discussion were absolutely relevant to this audience and we were provided several themes that help to guide our planning assumptions.

J.C., Joint Enabling Capabilities Command • Professional Development Course February 2017

Very good insights. I appreciate the world-class experts you assemble.

P.G., Air Force • Transnational Issues Seminar April 2017
